The Medical Centre for Transgender and Gender Diverse People and People with Intersex Conditions

Evidence-based. Resource-oriented. Human.

The Trans and Intersex Centre Lucerne is a specialist contact point for transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming people, as well as intersex individuals, their relatives, professionals and institutions. Our goal is to create a safe, respectful and professionally sound space where individual realities are recognised and supported.
We provide medical and psychological counselling and treatment, psychosocial support, and educational and awareness-raising work. We are committed to eliminating discrimination, promoting self-determination, and ensuring access to gender-affirming healthcare.

Evidence-based practice

The Centre consistently works in an evidence-based manner: our counselling and training are based on the latest international research and the principles of participatory, patient-centred healthcare. We are guided by the standards of evidence-based practice (EBP) as established in international healthcare.
As a clinical partner of the JBI Centre for Gender Health Care Hamburg (part of the Joanna Briggs Institute network), we are dedicated to ensuring continuous quality improvement, providing training, and implementing research findings in our daily work. The JBI Centre Hamburg is a recognised institution for evidence-based healthcare in German-speaking countries, and is part of the global JBI network based in Adelaide, Australia.

Interdisciplinary and networked

The centre operates interprofessionally, drawing on psychological, social, pedagogical, and medical expertise. We also collaborate with specialists from education, justice, and administration to break down systemic barriers and promote affirmative structures.

Our self-image

We understand gender to be diverse and embedded in social, cultural, and individual contexts. Our work is based on a resource-oriented, empowering approach that focuses on the autonomy and dignity of all individuals.
